Let me back up a little before Sweetheart came into my life. A few years back, I said goodbye to my cat Tabby after 24 wonderful years together. Weeks later, I happened to see a post from the SPCA about a cat who was 20 years and 8 months old and in need of a home. The moment I saw her, I knew she was meant to be with us. The very next day, we went to pick her up.
That cat was Sweetheart. And true to her name, she has been a gentle and loving presence ever since.
Sweetheart will turn 28 this November. She has been one of the easiest cats, and one of the most vocal. She always has a lot to say, and usually says it pretty loudly. Over the years, she’s lived around many other animals, including large dogs, small dogs, and other cats. She has not liked a single one of them. But when it comes to humans, she will jump into a lap anytime she gets the chance.
She sleeps curled up next to my head every night, right on my pillow. Every morning, like clockwork, she wakes me up for breakfast. I keep all of my pets on a routine, and her day starts at about 6 a.m. with her favorite food: Press Your Lunch! It's a house favorite and the one she always looks forward to.
